John McElroy, Partner
John joined SG Warburg in London in 1988 having previously qualified (ICAEW) with KPMG. At SG Warburg, John advised on a wide range of public and private M&A and capital markets transactions across Europe. In 1995, following the acquisition of Warburg by Swiss Bank Corporation, John relocated to the New York office where he became a Managing Director and a founder member of the investment bank's M&A team. During his 8 years in New York he worked on numerous domestic and cross border M&A transactions.
John's period in New York coincided with a phase of intense entrepreneurial activity during the dot.com boom which engendered a keen interest in working with individual business owners and founders. In 2003 John relocated back to the UK and created a new business within UBS Wealth Management providing corporate finance advice to clients of the private bank.
John joined Opus in 2008 after recognising the benefits of independence and the opportunity to work with a broader group of private banks and their clients.
John has a BSc (Economics) degree from University College London and is a member of the ICAEW.
